PM: Only Those Who Love the Genocidal Regime are Against the January 7 Victory Day

Phnom Penh: The Prime Minister and President of the Cambodian People's Party, Hun Sen, said that only those who love the genocidal regime are against the January 7 victory.

Speaking at the Memorial Ceremony on the 44th Anniversary of the January 7, 2023 Victory Day, PM Hun Sen spoke about the plight of the Cambodian people under the leadership of the Khmer Rouge, which killed more than 3 million people.

He added that the victory on January 7 is to save the Cambodian people in time, bring new life and freedom to the people again, which is a fact that cannot be distorted.

"Without Victory Day on January 7, there would be no Cambodia today," he said.

The CPP leader, who fled to Vietnam to mobilize against the Khmer Rouge in 1977, added that in 1979, despite the successful overthrow of the Khmer Rouge, the new government was not recognized, they also suffered unfair economic and political sanctions, as well as inhumane treatment.

"Our main task at that time was to prevent the revival of the people, to prevent the return of the genocidal regime," he said.

According to PM Hun Sen, the success of the Cambodian government in preventing the return of the Khmer Rouge was due to the right leadership and the force of national unity, which led the country from the most difficult to become a united and democratic Cambodia and developed as it is now.
